Woking’s young athletes were in action across 2 venues on Sunday with the under 11’s, under 13’s and under 15’s in action at the Wessex League in Oxford and the Under 17’s and Under 20’s at the Youth Development League in Windsor.

The highlights came at Oxford with a huge number of wins and personal bests. The highlights came in the sprints and jumps with the under 13’s particularly shining. In the girls sprints Evie Wiltshire won the 100 metres comfortably in a national grade 2 time of 13.6 seconds and was 2nd in the 200 metres in a grade 3 time of 29.5 seconds as well as winning the long jump in a personal best of 4.07 metres. In the equivalent age group for the boys Desimi Akinyanju  completed a sprint double in the 100 metres and 200 metres with national grade 3 times of 13.3 and 27.6 seconds respectively. He then anchored the 4×100 metres team with  Albert Mount, Arthur Embleton, Lucas Pearman making up the rest to comfortably win finishing around 20 metres clear of the opposition.

In the under 15 boys sprints and long jump Dylan Lewis and Sahil Vassanjee had their own private battle. Dylan came out top in the long jump winning with a personal best jump of 4.95 metres with Sahil just 1 centimetre behind in also a personal best jump of 4.94 metres. In the 200 metres the positions were reversed with Sahil winning in a personal best time of 24.7 seconds and Dylan 2nd in also a personal best time of 25.00 seconds. In the 100 metres they were placed in different races with both winning comfortable with Dylan running 12.1 seconds and Sahil 12.3 seconds, both personal best times.

In the under 15 girls sprints Alice Clark finished a narrow 2nd in the 200 metres whilst Olivia Hemming and Eleanor Buckle both finished 2nd in their respective 100 metres. Along with Mia Reeves they also teamed up for a comfortable win in the 4×100 metres.

In the under 15 girls high jump Milla Hadley won the competition with a height of 1.40 metres, just below her personal best.

In the middle distance vents the best performance came from Jacob Bowyer in the 1500 metres who enjoyed an extremely comfortable win running away from the opposition in a time just outside 5 minutes.

In the under 11 Quadkids Competition the girls had a very successful afternoon of competition with the 5 girls; Florence Fernando, Lucille Cumberland, Isabelle Brehaut, Milan Nessam and Emily Pearce with none of them finishing outside the top 2 in their 75 metre sprint races and filling the 1st 4 places in the 600 metres with Lucille leading them home.  In the under 11 boys Sam Hewitt was the sole competitor from Woking but had a good afternoon winning his 75 metre race and finishing 3rd in the 600 metres.

At the Youth Development league the Woking team were up against very tough opposition in the Premier League. Annabelle Thornton set a personal best in the high jump with a leap of 1.50 metres and Laura Kersley equalled her best in the long jump with 4.70 metres.

Woking’s next meeting is at Winchester in the Youth Development League on the 8th May.
