If you ever need proof that talent can reveal itself on a school sports field, meet Mia Mosko — the long jumper and sprinter who turned a streak of sports-day wins into a passion for flying further, faster, and higher. ![]()

“It all started at school — I won long jump four years in a row. My favourite teacher happened to be a coach and told me I should give it a proper go. That’s where it began, and I’ve loved it ever since.” ![]()
Long jump might be her favourite, but Mia’s pace on the track is just as impressive — this season she’s won Surrey titles over 60m and 100m, picked up county and schools wins, claimed bronze at the Southerns and 4th at English Schools, plus silver in the 4×100 relay.
She even broke a club record along the way and now ranks 12th equal in the UK for the 100m and 7th equal in the UK for long jump. ![]()

“Athletics has made me so much more confident. It’s also taught me that success doesn’t come easily — it comes from determination and a good mindset.” ![]()
That mindset’s clearly working. Mia’s proudest moments include coming 2nd in long jump at the UK U15 Championships, representing Surrey at English Schools, and equalling a club record that’s stood since 1966. Not bad company to be keeping. ![]()
When the competition’s over, it’s time for a well-earned ritual.
“After a good session or race, I blast music in the car with my dad — then head home for my mum’s pepperoni and hot honey pizza. That’s my go-to celebration!” ![]()

And because every great athlete has a surprise or two up their sleeve…
“I can drive a tractor — and a manual Volkswagen Polo.” ![]()
(Editor’s note: Determination, mindset, and a mum who makes pepperoni and hot honey pizza — a winning combination. The rest of us will be waiting for our invite to the next celebration. ![]()
