WOKING ATHLETIC CLUB

Getting to Know… Lauren Chadwick – Edition 17 🧡💚

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” ✨

It’s a quote that sums up Lauren Chadwick perfectly — quietly determined, full of warmth, and always ready to cheer on her teammates (preferably with a packet of Percy Pigs in hand 🐷).

That kindness isn’t just a saying — it shows up every week. When a new runner came along for a taster session recently, Lauren immediately took her under her wing, showing her the ropes and making her feel right at home. It just comes naturally. 💚

Lauren’s been part of Woking AC for three years, but her running journey started long before that.

“I started running in primary school with the cross country club. From there, my friends and I were asked to join the local athletics club — our coach was actually the head teacher at our school. Since then, I haven’t stopped putting one foot in front of the other.” 🏃‍♀️

When it comes to her favourite event, Lauren doesn’t find it easy to pick just one.

“That’s a tough one… I do quite enjoy steeplechase and am looking forward to getting back into training for it again this year! But cross country is fun too — I can never say no to a muddy run and Percy Pigs!” 💨🐷

What she missed out on by not taking the traditional university route, she’s more than gained through the community she’s found at Woking AC.

“WAC has given me a real sense of belonging — every group I’ve trained or raced with has been so welcoming and friendly.” 🧡

When it comes to post-race celebrations, Lauren keeps things refreshingly honest.

“Anyone who knows me would know I’d be lying if I didn’t say food. I’m always hungry, especially after a race!” 🍝😅

And her proudest moment so far?

“Being part of the team that got promoted to Division 1 in the Surrey Cross Country League — and winning the U20 title that year too.” 🏆💚

When she’s not running, Lauren swaps spikes for something a bit softer.

“When I’m not on the move, I crochet. If you want a bouquet of flowers, just ask!” 🧶💐

(Editor’s note: Mud, miles, and a handmade bouquet — Lauren might just be Woking’s kindest multitasker. Her kindness also shines off the course — she stepped up as meeting organiser for our home fixture in last season’s Rosenheim League, which turned into a huge success. Proof that being fast and being thoughtful can go hand in hand. 🧡
