Getting to know… James Morris – episode 14

“I used to think all runners were mad.”

That’s how James Morris sums up life before running — and, to be fair, after 30 marathons, he might just be proving his own point 😅

His journey started with a bout of workplace FOMO: a few colleagues were entering the London Marathon, and rather than just cheer them on, James signed up for Paris instead. One marathon later, he was hooked.

Fast-forward a few years, and he’s now ticked off every World Marathon Major, proudly earning his Abbott Six Star Medal last year. Not bad for someone who once doubted he’d ever be good enough to qualify for Boston!

Running, James says, has given him “greater coordination — I was awful before 🤣”, plus a brilliant community of friends, a way to escape the daily grind, and the kind of structure that keeps both mind and legs moving.

After a big race, you’ll usually find him celebrating the best way possible — with a well-earned pint, ideally in whichever city he’s just conquered 🍺

From thinking runners were mad to happily joining the madness — James is living proof that sometimes the craziest ideas turn out to be the best ones 👏

📝 Editor’s note: Huge thanks to James for sharing his story — and after all that improved coordination, we can’t wait to see it in action on the dance floor at next year’s Woking AC Awards Night 💃🕺
