WOKING ATHLETIC CLUB

Getting to know….. Andrew Moore. Edition 25.

Signing of the season.

Some athletes ease their way into club life.

Others arrive and start making noise straight away.

Andrew Moore has very much done the latter — just not in the way you might expect.

A new member to Woking AC this year, Andrew has made an immediate and emphatic impact across cross country, road and track — quickly establishing himself as one of the standout additions to the club this season.

What’s striking is how he’s done it.

Andrew is quietly spoken, unfussy, and lets his performances do the talking. He’s settled into the club seamlessly — friendly, approachable, and already a familiar face around training and races — the kind of athlete who just gets on with the job and fits straight in.

His running journey began simply enough: parkrun, encouraged by his parents, just before Covid. He kept turning up. Kept running. And, this year in particular, everything has clicked.

Andrew’s main events sit in the 10k to half-marathon range — distances that reward discipline, focus and consistency. A look at his Power of 10 from this season alone shows a runner in outstanding form, stacking performances and building momentum:

• 69 minutes for the half marathon (March)

• 15:02 for 5000m (April)

• 31:19 for 10k at Telford (December)

Those aren’t isolated results — they’re the markers of a phenomenal year, and one that feels like the start of something rather than the finished product.

That form has carried straight into the Surrey Cross Country League too.

Andrew finished 2nd in the opening race, then followed it up by winning the second — a serious statement from someone still settling into club colours.

Andrew credits athletics with giving him more than just results.

“Discipline and focus — and a great group of friends and community with similar interests in athletics.”

His proudest moment so far?

“Running sub-70 for the half marathon.”

A milestone many top club athletes spend years chasing — and one Andrew ticked off early.

Post-race celebrations, however, remain refreshingly unscientific.

“A four-pack of donuts, a McDonald’s, and many pints.”

(Editor’s note: This is not an endorsed recovery strategy — but while you’re young and running those kinds of times, you can probably get away with it. For now.)** 🍩🍟🍺

And just in case anyone thinks it’s all seriousness and splits…

“I buzzed and bleached my hair for Movember.”

Distance runner. XC winner.

A quietly spoken presence — and a new signing whose first season suggests he’s only just finding his feet.

(Editor’s note: New to the club, delivering immediately, and setting serious benchmarks across road, track and cross country — Andrew’s impact this season has been exceptional, and there’s a strong sense this is only the beginning.)** 🧡💚
