Getting to know… Amy Johnson – Edition 5 ![]()

Next up, we’re featuring someone who knows all about discipline, determination, and a good cross country challenge — Amy Johnson.

Amy’s love for running started young, thanks to an inspiring primary school head teacher who shared her passion for cross country.
“We used to have a run club during lunch break, running around the farms over at Pirbright.”
That early encouragement set the tone for everything that followed. Cross country has built Amy’s competitive nature — though she admits, “my biggest competition is myself
.” It’s also given her lasting friendships and a lifelong love of muddy miles.
Her proudest moment so far? Completing her first marathon in Brighton, on a blazing hot day.
“I had no idea what to expect, but it taught me a lot — and I loved it.” ![]()

Post-race recovery, Amy-style, sounds pretty perfect: “Maybe an ice bath, a pub quiz, and a glass of red wine.” ![]()

And one fun fact: Amy holds a black belt in martial arts — her dad was her teacher, and she and her brother both trained from primary school age. ![]()
(Editor’s note: a black belt, marathon runner, and cross country regular — remind us never to get between Amy and a finish line!) ![]()

Thanks for sharing your story, Amy — and for reminding us that cross country builds not just endurance, but great friendships (and a solid pub quiz team too!).
